Preparing for the exhibition
July 16th, 2008
In the past few weeks I’ve been busy preparing for my first exhibition – making the prints and mounting them, finding the right hangers and proofing my book which I’ll be selling at the exhibition.
The printing and mounting took a whole day (with the help of Dan, a lifesaver) and was pretty hard work. It was worth it, though, as getting it printed and mounted by a professional printer would have been amazingly expensive.
I also had a small hiccup with the book, which I hope won’t recur. The printer managed to fold the dust-jacket of the hardcover version in the wrong places so that the cover picture was misaligned. But they did give me a credit for the book and I’ve ordered more hardcover books for the exhibition. I really hope that people will buy the book – friends have already said they’d like a copy, but I’m apprehensive if anyone else will buy the book. I did manage to sell four copies online, so I’m optimistic.
I’ve also been wondering if anyone will buy prints, and how much to charge for them. I’ve ordered some test prints from a professional printer – Lambda prints on normal matte photographic paper and on baryta photographic paper – as samples…I’m looking forward to seeing these.
Next Monday, July 21st, I’ll be hanging the prints in the exhibition space – I expect another long day. I’m really excited about seeing my prints under spotlights…and hoping that people will like them.
