How many ‘O’s in “Choo Choo Photoshoot”?

Choo Choo Photoshoot Behind the Scenes 1196

Last Saturday I went to Berne for a photoshoot with Mark and Beat for Choo Choo, a local band. The basic plan was that we would each have our own ideas and assist each other in realising what we’d each planned.

I don’t generally work well photographically when a shoot has to be planned with location and lighting ideas. For a few weeks before we’d been thinking about locations and possible setups and poses, and I still didn’t have anything specific in mind besides a vague idea of candid reportage style shots of the band in the streets of Berne, and perhaps a location where I could pose the band in a strong shadow with their faces just barely emerging from the darkness.

At the end of the day I think I made some good pictures using 2 ideas – firstly using a set of chairs in the Kornhauskeller restaurant around which the band could improvise their poses for a looser, more relaxed feel; and secondly, a “running, jumping” shot in the old town which the band had suggested.

At the end of a long, but fun day, we wound down with a super BBQ at Yan’s place. Thanks to Choo Choo for being so patient with us during setups and posing. Thanks also to Mark and Beat for their help.
