Cairo, the Mother of all Cities
Cairo, known to its inhabitants as “the Mother of all Cities”, was an unforgettable experience for me. Resisting the urge to indulge in sightseeing, I instead opted to spend most of my time in Old Cairo, also known as Islamic Cairo. This labyrinth of streets south of the famous Khan el-Khalili bazaar is an amazing mixture of sounds, sights and smells, evoking hints of the past glories of this city by the Nile.
